New Zealand Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Squad Preview & Match Schedule

New Zealand Women’s Selection Committee has kept their faith in mostly the same lineup who recently played the home series against Bangladesh which New Zealand Women’s team won quite comprehensively. We have discussed New Zealand women’s T20 World Cup squad 2023 & New Zealand women’s T20 World Cup schedule 2023 in detail below for you to judge how strong their team squad is for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and if they can manage to reach the big final which they couldn’t able to do in U19 T20 World Cup which is also being played in South Africa.

New Zealand Women’s T20 World Cup Squad Preview

Sophie Devine is named as captain of the New Zealand women’s T20 World Cup squad 2023 and the good news is she has been declared completely fit after she faced a minor foot issue in the domestic T20 competition. The complete New Zealand women’s T20 World Cup 2023 players list is as follows.

Complete Squad: Sophie Devine (c), Suzie Bates, Bernadine Bezuidenhout, Eden Carson, Lauren Down, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Hayley Jensen, Fran Jonas, Amelia Kerr, Jess Kerr, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, Lea Tahuhu.

Wicketkeeper-batter Bernadine Bezuidenhout is making her comeback after a long period of 2 years she was diagnosed with Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). Jessica McFadyen couldn’t make it to the official World Cup squad and Bernadine will be making her comeback in place of her. She is currently in red-hot batting form in the domestic competitions in New Zealand which forced her way into the World Cup. One interesting fact you must know is Bernadine had previously played for South Africa before qualifying for New Zealand in 2018 which means she would have a better idea of weather and pitch conditions.

As we are seeing in the U19 T20 World Cup, spin is playing a very crucial role in the tournament and the same trend is expected in the senior Women’s T20 World Cup so players like Eden Carson, Maddy Green, Fran Jonas, Amelia Kerr can play a vital role in the success for team New Zealand in this tournament.

However, team New Zealand’s strength is more medium and fast pace bowling due to the many great options available like Lea Tahuhu, Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Hannah Rowe & Hayley Jensen who have experience playing at the mega events and have performed brilliantly under pressure with wickets upfront.

Selectors have shown faith in U19 players as well who have recently participated in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup which are batter Georgia Plimmer and left-arm spinner Fran Jonas who makes their way into the senior women’s team squad.
