1st Innings Summary
Rwanda U19s Women won the toss and chose to bat first as they believe their bowling is their major strength which can create another upset at the U19 World Cup stage like yesterday Bangladesh who defeated Australian U19 Women’s team in a brilliant thumping chase. Pitch looked dry at the JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom and so it was expected it was going to be a low-scoring game with bowlers having more chances to trouble batters at this pitch. Rwanda lost the first wicket very early courtesy of good sharp wicket-to-wicket bowling from Areesha Noor Bhatti. Cynthia Tuyizere, Cynthia Tuyizere, and Henriette T. Ishimwe helped their team reach a below-par score of 106 runs in their allotted 20 overs. From Pakistan, Areesha Noor Bhatti was the most impressive bowler who took 2 wickets and gave away only 19 runs in her 4 overs. One thing which definitely needs major improvement is the number of extras team Pakistan gave away in this game as they bowled 13 wides, 1 bye, and 2 leg byes which means 16 free runs for Rwanda on a tricky pitch.
2nd Innings Summary
In reply to the chase, team Pakistan also lost their opener Shawaal Zulfiqar in the very first over of their innings which put extra pressure on them to chase down the below-par target set by team Rwanda. Eyman Fatima the other opener steadied the ship after a loss of one quick wicket and she is one player who is highly rated at this U19 level for Pakistan. But Warda also lost her wicket to Gisele Ishimwe after scoring only 16 runs which means Eyman remained the key scalp who could make or break this chase as a set batter.
Captain Syeda Aroob Shah came to the middle and she played a good sensible knock with Eyman who scored her first fifty in this tournament to get Pakistan home to register their first win in this U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Eyman scored unbeaten 65 runs off 60 balls with 11 boundaries on her name.
The run rate required hovered around 5 to 6 runs per over throughout the chase which means they only needed one solid inning from a player to chase down this score and Eyman did exactly that. Pakistan U19s won by 8 wickets with 2 victory points registered under their name with a net run rate of +0.756 in Group B.
