India U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Squad Preview & Match Schedule

The chances to win the U19 Women’s Cricket World cup 2023 by India U19 Women’s team are very good because of the depth they got in their team along with the International experience of some players in hand who already plays for the Indian senior national team. Shafali Verma has been named as the captain for India in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup which is a solid decision considering her vast experience of playing competitive cricket. She has so far represented India in 46 T20Is, 21 ODIs, and two Tests so making her captain for the event is a no-brainer. Shweta Sehrawat is named as vice-captain for the tournament and was the actual captain in the series against New Zealand Women’s development side in Mumbai recently.

Indian U19 Women’s Squad Preview

Shafali Verma (capt), Shweta Sehrawat (vice-capt), Richa Ghosh (wk), G Trisha, Soumya Tiwari, Sonia Mendhiya, Hurley Gala, Hrishita Basu (wk), Sonam Yadav, Mannat Kashyap, Archana Devi, Parshavi Chopra, Titas Sadhu, Falak Naz, Shabnam MD.

Standby players: Shikha Shalot, Najla CMC, Yashashri

Selectors have picked Richa Ghosh as well as a wicket-keeper senior batter who will also bring in her experience of playing at the top level with the other Under-19 girls. Ghosh has played 25 T20Is and 17 ODIs for India already.

Indian U19 Women’s team has good batting options like Shafali, Ghosh, Sehrawat, Gongadi Trisha, Soumya Tiwari, and Soniya Mendhiya. All of these players have recently performed big at the Women’s Under-19 T20 Challenger Trophy, Quadrangular Women’s Under-19 T20 series & against the New Zealand Women’s development team.

Because the U19 Women’s T20 World T20 is scheduled in South Africa so pace attack might become a crucial part of the team’s success in the initial stages of the tournament when the pitches will be fresh. India got good pace options like Titas Sadhu, Hurley Gala, Falak Naz, and Shabnam MD who like the batters have also done reasonably well in T20 Challenger Trophy, Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, and against the New Zealand Women’s development side.

The complete under-19 t20 world cup 2023 will be played on three different venues in South Africa so it is expected that in the later part of the tournament once the pitches get used up they will offer more spin to the bowlers. India got Mannat Kashyap (slow left-arm orthodox), left-arm spinner Sonam Yadav, offspinner Archana Devi and legspinner Parshavi Chopra available to utilize the spin on offer.

The team also got a backup wicketkeeper in Hrishita Basu in case Richa Ghosh faces an unexpected injury which is always a good thing to have when you travel to play an ICC tournament abroad.

One thing that team India missing is the availability of multiple power hitters in the lower middle order who can really go hard in the last five overs. Hurley Gala is one player who has the ability to go big in the later stages of the game.
