Labuschagne replaced Root to become the No. 1 Test batter

After the sensational batting performance by Marnus Labuschagne in the 1st Test Match at Perth against West Indies where he scored 308 runs with a double century in 1st innings and a century in the second innings (204 & 104*). He also became only the eighth player in the history books who is able to achieve to score a double ton and a singleton in a test match. 

Rating Points After 1st Test

Marnus earned 50 rating points after his top performance at Perth which pushed him to 935 points just one point below his previous best of 936 Rating Points back in June when he was named as the number one Test batter for Men’s ICC Ranking. 

Joe Root who was number one before Marnus could only score 23 & 73 respectively in the Pindi Test against Pakistan which resulted in him being downgraded from number one to number the fourth spot. The current top five in the ICC Men’s Test Batters are as follows.

With 42 points difference between Marnus and Smith, one can say he can sustain his number one spot for a while but it will definitely need him to keep producing well for Australia in the 2nd Test match against West Indies which is starting on 8th December and scheduled to be played at Adelaide. 

Kraigg Brathwaite also got back into the top 20 ICC Men’s Test Batters after his great performance in the 1st test match against Australia where he scored 64 and 110 respectively.

Marnus absolutely loves the longer format and we can see his magnificent stats in Test and FC with the great highest score and a very healthy average. His Test average right now is touching around 60 and no wonder he is being named as the ICC Men’s Number One Batter right now with excellent rating points.

How Often Are ICC Player’s Ratings Updated

In March 2021, ICC in a press release announced that both Women’s and Men’s player ratings will be updated every week. Women’s ODIs and T20Is are updated every Tuesday while Men’s Tests, ODIs & T20Is are updated every Wednesday. Marnus Labuschagne is announced as Number One batter as of 7th December 2022. Next, Rating update will be on 14th December 2022.
