Rashid Khan is re-appointed as T20I Captain for Afghanistan

Afghanistan Cricket Board in a press release has confirmed that their Champion bowler Rashid Khan has been re-appointed as T20I captain after Mohammad Nabi stepped down from the role following the ICC T20 World Cup.

In September 2019, Rashid was named as T20I captain which he carried forward for three months in which he played seven games as captain and won four of them. ACB is trying to give T20I captaincy to Rashid for more than 2 years but he wasn’t keen on accepting the responsibility for the long term because he was afraid it might affect his performances as an all-rounder.

Rashid first declined the captaincy in June 2021 but after a lot of convincing from ACB board members, he was named captain in July 2021 for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE. But just a month before the world cup officially started Rashid Khan resigned from his position as captain citing he wasn’t involved or had taken confidence before announcing Afghanistan’s World T20 squad which caused a rift between Rashid & board members. Mohammad Nabi took over the captaincy among all this chaos.

In a statement given by Mirwais Ashraf, the ACB chairman he said:

Rashid Khan is a massive name in Afghanistan Cricket. He has colossal experience of playing the format around the world which will help him take the team to a new level in the format.

Rashid Khan has the experience of leading Afghanistan in all three formats before and we are happy to have him as our skipper for the T20I format again. I am sure he will come out on top and will bring more glory to the nation.
