Bangladesh World Cup Squad 2023

The squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has been finalized by Bangladesh. The team will be led by newly-appointed skipper Shakib Al Hasan, with Najmul Hossain Shanto serving as his vice-captain. However, the big news is the exclusion of Tamim Iqbal, who had previously announced his return to ODI cricket earlier this year. Unfortunately, pacer Ebadot Hossain will not be able to participate in the World Cup, as he has not fully recovered from a knee injury sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan in July.

In terms of batting, Bangladesh has a strong lineup with the likes of Litton Kumer Das, Shakib-al-Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah Riyad, who have proven themselves on the international stage. They will be supported by the talented Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Tawhid Hridoy, who have shown great potential in recent matches. However, the absence of Tamim Iqbal, a seasoned campaigner, might be felt in the opening position.

The bowling department is bolstered by the presence of Mustafizur Rahman, who is known for his ability to take wickets in crucial moments. Taskin Ahmed and Shak Mahedi Hasan will also play key roles in the pace and spin departments respectively. However, the absence of Ebadot Hossain might put some pressure on the pace attack.

Complete Squad:

Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Litton Kumer Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto (Vice Captain), Tawhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib

Bangladesh Winning Record in ODI World Cups

Despite having some of the best players in the world circuit, such as Shakib-Al-Hasan, Bangladesh has struggled to make a significant impact on the ODI World Cup stage. In fact, they have never reached the semi-finals and have only made it to the quarter-finals once, back in 2015.

Since their inception into the ODI World Cup in 1975, Bangladesh has faced numerous challenges in their quest for glory. In the early years, they were not eligible to participate, and in subsequent tournaments, they failed to qualify. It wasn’t until the 1999 World Cup that Bangladesh finally made it to the group stage. However, they were unable to progress beyond this stage, finishing at the bottom of their group.

In 2003, Bangladesh once again reached the group stage but faced tough competition from more established teams. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to secure a place in the Super Six stage. Similar outcomes followed in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, with Bangladesh failing to advance past the group stage.

Finally, in 2015, Bangladesh achieved a significant milestone by reaching the quarter-finals. They displayed exceptional teamwork and skill, defeating England to secure their place in the knockout stage. However, their journey came to an end when they were defeated by India in a hard-fought match.

In the most recent World Cup held in 2019, Bangladesh once again faltered, finishing in the group stage. Despite their consistent efforts and the presence of talented players, they have been unable to break through the barriers and make a mark on the ODI World Cup stage. However, with the upcoming World Cup in 2023, Bangladesh will be looking to rewrite their history and make a strong statement with their talented squad.
