PCB is finalizing the arrangements to conduct the PSL 9 draft event at the NCA this year. The draft event will take place in Lahore because the headquarters of PCB is located there. If there is one league that is able to successfully manage player drafting it would be PSL without a shadow of a doubt. There are many other leagues that are currently following this draft structure but their draft event always has many issues with technological problems while PCB has been doing it very successfully for the past 8 years without a single issue.

PSL 9 Draft Date & Time

As per the media sources, the draft initially was supposed to take place on the 18th of November 2023 but due to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, PCB has delayed the draft event by a month. The confirmed date for the PSL draft 2024 is the 13th of December, 2023.

Venue: National Cricket Academy, Lahore

All the team franchise owners, coaches, captains, and team managers are expected to be present at the event where psl draft 2024 player list will be officially revealed from which all six franchises are going to select the best players.

PSL Draft 2024 Pick Order

As per the PCB media release, psl 9 draft schedule was announced by using a statistical tool whose main purpose was to give all franchises an equal opportunity based on the team retentions they had and all six teams can get the strongest possible lineups. The pick order for psl draft 2024 player list is as follows.

All HBL PSL 9 draft players will be picked as per the pick order mentioned above in the picture. Multan Sultans will start the proceedings in the draft with a platinum pick.

PSL 9 Relegation Requests

PCB allows all franchises to make use of relegation requests which helps some franchises to do better retentions. A relegation request allows the franchise to meet the player’s base category. If the player’s base category is not matched then franchises have the option to relegate a player below his base category. This process needs to have full confidence and agreement with the player before making it official. 

This year before the PSL 2024 draft event, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings & Islamabad United have each relegated one player before the draft.

PSL 9 Successful Trades

In past few weeks, there have been numerous rumors about certain International stars being moved from one franchise to another and one of them is now official confirmed. 

Imad Wasim who has been the captain of Karachi Kings for long time has left the franchise to move to his real city based franchise Islamabad United while Hassan Ali who himself moved from Peshawar Zalmi to Islamabad a few years has made a move once again and joined Karachi Kings. 

Another major trade has been confirmed between the Quetta and Multan franchises. Multan traded Riliee to Iftikhar in this mega trade. Both teams looked at their team combinations and the trade is perfectly matched up. 

After weeks of different talks between franchises after Naseem Shah informed his franchise that he wanted to move the deal finally struck between the Islamabad and Quetta franchises. Quetta has released Naseem Shah while in return Islamabad has released Abrar Ahmed & Mohammad Wasim Jnr. Naseem’s injury may rule him out from the start of PSL 2024.

Reports suggests that Mohammad Amir is also leaving Karachi Kings but franchise could not get a good trade deal so it might mean Amir if not retained by KK will go to the open draft and whichever franchise gets the chance early will go for him.

PSL 9 Right to Match Card (RTM)

Last year, the Right to match card was introduced by the PCB after many requests from all franchises. RT card allows the franchise to buy back a maximum of one player who they really need in their line up but due to retention rules, they cannot retain them. We know Lahore Qalandars likely to use RTM card to get Fakhar Zaman back into their line up who was instrumental in helping them WIN the PSL trophy last year. 

PSL 2024 Total Foreign Players

The media sources reveal that around 493 foreign players from both full member and associate nations have entered their names for the PSL 8 draft event. Out of which, 81 players registered in the diamond category while 27 players are available to be picked in the Platinum category. The total hbl psl 8 draft players from countries are as follows.

How Many Total Players can each squad get?

Each team was given the option to retain up to eight players from the last year’s squad. PCB has allowed all franchises to draft 18 players in their lineup so each team can have many options available in case of injuries or international duties. 

An 18-member squad comprises 3 platinum, 3 diamond, 3 gold, 5 silver, 2 emerging & 2 supplementary.
